Choosing a contractor
Your church can choose any licensed contractor you trust. Look for one who is local or regional, fully licensed and insured (including workers’ compensation for their crew), with references you can actually check. Walk away from anyone who showed up at your door after a storm, was sent directly by your mitigation company, or promises to “waive your deductible” through the claim — that last one is insurance fraud; end the conversation. A public adjuster is rarely in your church’s interest (they take 10–15% of your settlement); call us before you ever sign with one.

How many contractor estimates do we need?
We recommend three written estimates from separate local contractors. Three bids give the adjuster what they need to evaluate the scope without back-and-forth, which moves your claim toward settlement faster. Start collecting them right away — don't wait for the adjuster's visit.
Should we use a public adjuster?
Usually not. Public adjusters charge a percentage of your total settlement — typically 10–15% — that comes out of what you recover, and it tends to slow things down. If you're ever considering one, call us first. It's a last resort, not a first step.
We received our first check — is that the full payment?
Probably not, if your policy is written on a replacement-cost basis. The first payment is usually the Actual Cash Value (replacement cost minus depreciation). Once repairs are complete and you submit receipts and invoices, the carrier releases the recoverable depreciation — the holdback that brings you to full replacement cost. Don't assume the first check closes the claim.
